Meet Johanna Matthews

Jo is a board-certified Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who earned her graduate degree from Walden University. Her professional journey in healthcare spans more than two decades, beginning with 20 years of service as a Registered Nurse—13 of which were dedicated specifically to the mental health field. Throughout her career, she has gained extensive experience working with a diverse range of patients, including children ages 4–11, adolescents ages 12–17, and adults from 18 through 65 and older. This broad clinical background has equipped her with a deep understanding of the unique challenges and needs that individuals face across the lifespan.

In addition to her civilian clinical experience, Jo serves as a Major in the United States Army Reserve within the Army Nurse Corps, specializing as a Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse. Her military service has given her invaluable insight into the mental health concerns affecting service members and veterans. Through this work, she has developed a strong and heartfelt commitment to supporting individuals living with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and other mental health conditions commonly associated with military life and post-service adjustment. Jo’s blended civilian and military background allows her to approach care with both clinical expertise and personal understanding.

As she continues to grow in her role as a Nurse Practitioner, Jo is passionate about expanding her practice to include complementary and alternative treatment modalities. She believes in a holistic, patient-centered approach to mental health care—one that integrates evidence-based practices with innovative, supportive therapies. Her goal is to provide compassionate, comprehensive care that helps every patient move toward meaningful healing and improved quality of life.
